Hilti produces and designs advanced devices, software and services that are used in the professional construction sector. For the Dutch headquarters in Berkel and Rodenrijs, Hilti initially wanted a restyled lunchroom. When presenting this design, we underlined that much more can happen in a lunch room than just eating a sandwich. During the presentation we were also asked to think about the layout of the head office.
The acoustics were a major impediment for Hilti. Two lively business units initially came together in the open office garden: the customer service and the sales department. There were consultations, there were formal and informal discussions, there were standups, etc. In short: too much of a good thing for one place with all of the same furnishings. We quickly saw different solutions to this problem that encompassed much more than just providing better acoustics.
We designed an office landscape with different types of seating, and with open and closed consultation areas. There were high tables and long tables, and we came up with silence rooms and a work space where you would not be bothered by all the (walking) movements further up. The half-high acoustic cabinets with a lot of beautiful vegetation on them help to absorb a lot of noise. As might be expected with a busy, fast-growing company, the renovation that Sprank then coordinated had to be done under immense time pressure. The Hilti team had a meeting in Luxembourg during the Ascension weekend which gave us the opportunity to work hard and get a lot done. The renovation was therefore carried out in no time. We put it all together within that one weekend when the new floor coverings, furniture, custom interiors, system walls, electricity, data and air treatment came in.
A fresh, new working environment with a functional layout where the acoustics have improved enormously.
