Koppert Biological Systems is a company in Berkel and Roderijs that creates biological solutions for crop protection. This company, which is more than 50 years old, is actually a market leader in sustainable agriculture. This project marked the start of a great collaboration with this fascinating family business.
Initially we were approached by the architect of the building where Koppert is housed. We carried out large-scale research into how the departments within the company worked in relation to each other and turned them into relationship diagrams. We looked for a better overlap between, for example, laboratory technicians and consultants. We noticed that there was, literally, a huge distance between these different types of employees. They worked in two parts of the building that had little connection with each other.
In our design, we literally built a bridge between the two professional groups. We came up with living rooms that were created in a walkway between the two buildings. An opportunity was created here for consultants and lab technicians, for example, to meet, without feeling like they were visiting the other person.
After that we helped intensively with the further process of a large-scale demolition and renovation in which we kept the Koppert employees closely involved.
A building in which employees from completely different departments can connect more easily.
